Sirajul Haq terms FATF laws a global conspiracy against mosques, madrassahs

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Leader Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Sirajul Haq has said that FATF laws are a global conspiracy against madrassahs and mosques, aimed at controlling their affairs. He also criticized the opposition for siding with the government on the issue.

Addressing the Ulema Convention in Islamabad on Monday, Senator Sirajul Haq said that the FATF laws were, in fact, a continuation of the policy adopted by Pervez Musharraf after 9/11. They want to control mosques and madrassahs through these bills, he added.

He said that the ICT Waqf Properties Bill has empowered the Chief Commissioner to do as he wants and there will be no possibility of appeal against the decision of the Nazim.

“Will the Nazim Auqaf tell what the sermons should say? Will the waqf mosques and madrassahs continue to function or will they be replaced by hotels? We will thwart this attack on our religious places”, he said.

He said that it was unfortunate that the opposition also sided with the government in passing the FATF bills. Now, Khawaja Asif complains that the opposition is being targeted despite giving support in the legislation.

Sirajul Haq said that they stand with the Ulema in rejecting the ICT Waqf Properties Bill against madrassahs and mosques. If the ICT Waqf Properties Bill is imposed in Islamabad, then it will apply to the whole country. He also vowed to engage the courts as well as the public against the Waqf Properties Bill.
