Nine wedding halls, 165 restaurants sealed for violating SOPs in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Local administration of Karachi has sealed nine wedding halls and 165 restaurants for violating Coronavirus SOPs in Karachi.

According to the details, cases of coronavirus have been increasing in Karachi in the last few days, after which smart lockdown has been carried out in some areas by the provincial government, while instructions were given by the government to strictly follow coronavirus SOPs.

The district administration has taken action after violation of the coronavirus SOPs. So far, 9 marriage halls and 165 restaurants have been sealed for violating the SOPs, more than a dozen private and 6 government schools were closed. Closed schools were reopened after warning.

A private Bank was also sealed after receiving 5 cases in South District, 174 different vehicles were issued challans and fined.

On the other hand, the federal government has decided to issue new SOPs related to wedding halls and restaurants in the wake of the coronavirus.

Talking to Dunya News, Federal Minister Asad Umar said that in the first phase, SOPs related to marriage halls would be issued on Wednesday, number of citizens and working hours would be fixed in marriage halls.

He added that in the second phase, SOPs related to restaurants would be issued, seating capacity in restaurants, necessary use of masks and restriction on working hours would be mandatory.

On the other hand the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Monday was apprised that non compliance of mask wearing and social distancing may give rise to disease spread.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar chaired the NCOC daily situational brief held here.

Asad Umar said that monitoring of disease prevalence and containment measures were important. “Wearing of Face Masks is the key to control disease spread.”

Asad Umar said winter spike could be avoided with standard operating procedures (SOPs) compliance.

He noted that marriage halls and restaurants were turning into major centers for disease spread.

The NCOC also appreciated education sector for their efforts in adherence to follow health guidelines and protocols.
