Nawaz Sharif is not entitled to extension in bail or suspension of sentence: Punjab government

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Government of Punjab has apprised Law Ministry and National Accountability Bureau (NAB) of reasons behind rejection of Nawaz Sharif’s plea for extension in bail.

According to the letter, Nawaz Sharif has failed to provide any credible medical report and proof of his treatment. Provincial government also stated that PML-N supremo is not entitled to extension in bail or suspension of sentence.

Punjab government has asked law ministry and the anti-graft watchdog to take appropriate action against Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia reference.

On the other hand, Islamabad High Court (IHC) on September 10, conducted hearing on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s review petition against order to surrender in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference.

During the hearing, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor told that the ex-premier has been declared proclaimed offender by the court.

Justice Mohsin Kiyani remarked that Nawaz Sharif’s bail has been rejected after which he has become absconder in the case. The former premier is residing in London but his doctors are present in United States, he went on to say.

Subsequently, the court has directed to present arguments over admissibility of the plea and adjourned the hearing till September 15.
