Situatied at the bank of Indus River, the DIK district is consisted of five tehsils and most of the area is backward. The availability of potable water in the region is lamentably low. Several projects of water dispensation have been launched in the area but they all failed to deliver the result. In various towns and villages of the district, people and animals drink water from the same pond. According to the official states, some Rs 180 million have been spent on 167 projects of water dispensation in the district. The department concerned spend 80 million for paying salaries to its employees and 70 million are spent for paying electricity bills annually while 30 million are allocated for repair work. But the performance of the department can be judged by the existing state of water supply in the district where majority of the projects have come to a halt.
