US seeks to mend Pak-US ties

At least 300 US officials are in Pakistan to enhance the operational capabilities of armed forces.

The US State Department said that efforts were being made to mend relations strained by the killing of two Pakistanis by a CIA contractor.State Department spokesman Mark Toner said that a 300-member US contingent was training the Pakistan Army in its fight against militancy. The US wants to maintain the programme and is having conversations with Pakistani authorities about requirements and force levels, he said.The US wants trustful strategic and bilateral relations with Pakistan, the spokesman said, adding that no reduction was being made in the US diplomatic staff in the country.
