ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court on Monday issued notices to Prime Minister Imran Khan and other parties in a petition seeking the disqualification of Zulfi Bukhari, the premier’s special assistant on overseas Pakistanis and human resource development.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar accepted the plea for hearing.

The petitioners Muhammad Adil Chattha from Lahore and Mirza Abdul Moiz Baig from Karachi adopted stance that Bukhari do not hold any designation.

During the hearing, the CJP remarked, “How the designation of special assistant can be equal to federal or state minister?”

“According to the petitioner, Zulfi Bukhari posses dual nationality. Such a person can neither become a member of parliament nor a minister,” he added.

“Are the posts of assistants created for those who cannot become a minister?” rebuked the CJP.

The court while adjourning the hearing until Friday issued notices to PM Khan, Bukhari and secretary of cabinet division. Next proceedings of the case will be held in SC Lahore registry.

Bukhari, who is also facing an inquiry by the National Accountability Bureau in connection with offshore companies case, faced criticism from political circles on his appointment as special assistant due to dual nationality.
