Dr Allama Allama Iqbal envisioned a separate homeland for Muslims of British India.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The 141st birth anniversary of national poet, philosopher Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal was observed all over the country today (Friday).

The nation celebrated the day with dedication to pay homage to the great poet philosopher and to highlight his achievements.

Various educational‚ political‚ social and cultural organizations arranged special programmes to portray Iqbal’s philosophy‚ life and his contribution to create awareness among the Muslims of South Asia.

A prestigious Change of Guards Ceremony was held at Mausoleum of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal in Lahore. An agile yet smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Navy clad in immaculate whites, assumed ceremonial guard duties with traditional spirit and enthusiasm.

Contingents of Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Rangers formed up outside the Mazar and took positions alongside where both the outgoing and incoming guards were inspected by Station Commander (Navy) Lahore, Commodore Neimatullah.

Marching to the band tunes, the Naval Contingent took positions at the four corners of the Mazar. Simultaneously, Rangers were ceremoniously moved out by their Officer-in-Charge.

The ceremonial Guard mounting was followed by floral wreath laying at the Mazar of Allama Iqbal by Station Commander (Navy) on behalf of Chief of the Naval Staff, Officers, Sailors and Civilians of Pakistan Navy. Later on, Station Commander offered Fateha and recorded his impression in the Visitors Book.

The ceremony was witnessed by a large number of military, civil officials, school children and general public.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877. He is also recognised as national poet, and known as Muffakir-e-Pakistan (thinker of Pakistan), Shair-e-Mashriq (poet of the east) and Hakeemul Ummat (doctor of the Muslim ummah) and is credited with sparking the pan-Islamic thought among Muslims of the subcontinent.

Allama Iqbal envisioned the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of subcontinent‚ which led to the creation of Pakistan. He was great representative of the subcontinent and an important personality for the Pakistan movement.

Iqbal was a Sufi poet for the modern age who aroused a revolutionary spirit in the nation through his poetry. His poetry has been translated in Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, English and several other languages and is considered a great philosopher all over the world.

Unfortunately, he could not see the independence of Pakistan and died on April 21, 1938.
