Kohat student murder: Police arrest man accused of aiding Mujahidullah's escape
Asma Rani was allegedly murdered by Mushahidullah Afridi over marriage refusal.
KOHAT (Dunya News) - Police on Friday arrested a man accused of assisting the escape of Mujahidullah Afridi, prime suspect in the murder of Kohat’s medical student.
The suspect identified as Shahzeb is a close friend of Afridi and conducted recce of the victim Asma Rani.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Kohat Abbas Majeed, the suspect is a taxi driver and a resident of Kohat Development Authority (KDA). He allegedly aided Mujahidullah Afridi in escaping and fleeing out of the country after Asma s murder.
The arrest came after the identification of Afridi’s brother, Sadiqullah who was detained on Tuesday.
Shahzeb was later produced before a judicial magistrate and handed over to police on 14-day physical remand.
During a previous press conference, the DPO had confirmed claims that Mujahidullah fled to Saudi Arabia soon after committing the crime. He asserted that a red warrant has been issued against him and interpol has been contacted in the matter.
Killed over marriage refusal
Mujahidullah, nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) district president Aftab Alam, reportedly shot dead Asma after his marriage proposal was turned down.
Asma received three bullets and was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. She had come home to meet her family in Kohat during session break.
Funeral prayer of the murdered youth was offered in Lakki Marwat. Late Asma recorded a statement at the hospital with the police in which she identified Mujahidullah Afridi as the man who fired at her.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also took notice and sought report of the incident in 24 hours.
