Twitter lights up following earthquake that hit Pakistan, region

(Web Desk) – A strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake rocked the capital and other parts of the country on Wednesday afternoon with people taking to the social networking website Twitter to share their experiences through the hashtag ‘earthquake’.
Just minutes into the tremors, ‘earthquake’ started trending on Twitter in Pakistan with people inquiring after one another, sharing pictures and videos of the tremors that jolted various parts of Pakistan.
Strong shocks were felt in Pakistan’s major cities including Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Jhelum, Nankana, Minawali, Chiniot, Abbotabad, Muzaffarabad, Lasbela, Safdarabad, Sharaqpur and Mianwali, reported Dunya News.
According to initial reports, the earthquake originated around 169 kilometer below the earth’s surface, with the epicentre located in mountains of Hindu Kush in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan with jolts being felt in the region, including India.
People rushed out of their residential and commercial buildings after the earthquake was felt at 12:10pm Pakistan time. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department the earthquake measured 6.2 on the Richter scale.
Reports of damage to buildings and injuries started coming in following the earthquake with initial reports claiming one casualty in Balochistan’s Lasbela district.

Pakistan s National Disaster Management Authority says in contact with provincial rescue services, expecting minimal damage and loss of life, given the depth of the earthquake.
