Three varsities, six schools on Mall Road shut owing to opposition's agitation

Secretary for schools education announced that as many as six schools are to remain shut.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Government of Punjab has announced on Tuesday to shut six education schools and three universities situated alongside Mall Road in light of the grand agitation of the opposition parties scheduled to begin on Wednesday.

Secretary for schools education announced that as many as six schools and Government College University (GCU), National College of Arts (NCA) and University of Punjab (Old Campus) are to remain shut until opposition parties call an end to the protest.

Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) among opposition parties were denied permission to protest on Mall Road but preparations for the purpose are underway that have choked traffic in parts of Lahore.

Opposition parties have announced to continue the protest despite government s denial while on the other hand, Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice (CJ) Mansoor Ali Shah formed a larger bench to hear petitions challenging the protest.

However, head of the larger bench excused himself from hearing the plea against the protest.
