Mall Road agitation: Punjab govt to summon Rangers
Three Rangers companies will secure key installments including the assembly and governor house.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Government of Punjab has resolved on Tuesday to summon three companies of Pakistan Rangers ahead of opposition’s ‘grand agitation’ over Model Town tragedy outside Punjab Assembly on Mall Road starting from January 17.
Sources privy to the home department have reported that at least three companies of Rangers Punjab would be positioned after the government denied permission to opposition parties to protest on Shahrah-e-Quaid-e-Azam also know as Mall Road.
It was reported that the companies would secure sensitive installments including the assembly and governor house, both situated on Mall Road.
Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Awami Muslim League (AML), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) are to demonstrate a grand protest against ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for alleged injustice in Model Town tragedy.
It is pertinent to mention here that the provinvial government had earlier denied permission for the demonstration on Mall Road but PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has announced to not budge.
He earlier announced that PTI chief Imran Khan and PPP co-chairman asif Ali Zardari, who have criticised each other in public addresses for months would share the stage for a common cause tomorrow.
