KMC reveals illegal construction in Karachi's eight parks by land mafia

Documents listed illegally made shops and hotels in Aziz Bhatti Park, Hill Park, and City Park

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The growing power of land mafia caused illegal construction activities in eight parks of Karachi, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) revealed in its documents on Thursday.

KDA and PECHS Society were involved in the land grabbing and construction of shops, hotels, theaters, mosques and banquet halls in the eight parks of the Sindh’s provincial capital. These illegal constructions were done in Aziz Bhatti Park, Hill Park, City Park and Jheel Park amongst others.



KMC reported 42 houses, six hotels, one theatre, swimming pool and two mosques of KDA in the Hill Park after illegal allotment. On the other hand, PECHS Society was involved in illegal allotment of seven plots in Hill Park and six acre land in Jheel Park.

Similarly, KDA had grabbed the land of Aziz Bhatti Park and constructed an illegal custom club for events. The parks department handed over related record to task force for further action.

Irregularities were found in allotment of dozens of acres of land in Kidney Hill, Ahmed Ali Park, National Park, Black Park, Burnes Garden and City Park.

Meanwhile, the Sindh High Court has rejected bails of more than 15 workers of KDA including officers in illegal allotment and China-cutting case of Gulistan-e-Jauhar’s 300 plots. The accused were arrested by NAB from the court. The counsels of the suspects opted the stance that their clients are educated individuals and not involved in this illegal activity.



Farooq Sattar announces protest

MQM-P chief Farooq Sattar has announced to conduct protest on December 23 against the demolition of residential areas.

He assured that his party will investigate the incidents of china cutting and land grabbing in their reign. Sattar made an appeal to the Supreme Court to take notice of the “85% American cutting and Russian cutting in Karachi”.
