Army, govt to face threats on same page: ISPR on Senate briefing
Media would be briefed in detail about General Bajwa's briefing to the Senators in 3, 4 days: ISPR
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor Bajwa has stated on Tuesday about Army Chief’s briefing to the Senate committee that the two institutions are on the same page to face and counter the threats that Pakistan faces.
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa has briefed a Senate committee for the first time in the history of Pakistan and DG of military’s media cell told journalists that the senators are fully aware of the challenges that Pakistan faces.
He informed the media that General Bajwa briefed the senators for around an hour and answered their questions for at least three hours. Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) accompanied the Army Chief and contributed to his answers.
DG Major General Ghafoor has further said that the media would be breifed in detail about General Bajwa’s briefing to the Senate committee within three to four days.
In addition to the Army Chief, Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) briefed the senators over geopolitical situation of the country and talked about efforts being put up in war on terror.
The briefings
It was the first time in country’s history when an Army Chief gave briefing to the senators. ISI DG Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar and DGMO Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza attended the meeting along with General Bajwa.
According to the sources, DGMO briefed the House first and told that military courts have announced verdicts of 274 hardcore terrorists cases so far.
It was directed to give death sentences to 161 terrorists and 56 of them have been hanged, said Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. He added that atleast 13 culprits were executed by military courts before Operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, and 43 afterwards.
General Qamar Javed Bajwa briefed the session afterwards during which he reiterated that army supports Pakistan’s democracy and is working within its constitutional boundaries.
COAS said the armed forces are well aware of external conspiracies and maintained that we should all work together to strengthen our country.
