ATM skimming: Private bank compensates affected customers

The development has come in after SBP instructed banks to start the compensation process.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – A private bank has begun to compensate to its customers for the ‘cyber heist’ reported last week when security of hundreds of bank accounts was compromised as hackers used devices to transfer money using ATMs.

Spokesperson for Habib Bank has said that over Rs 10 million have been spent to compensate the affected customer both residing in and out of Pakistan. He also said that hackers are at large over three days into the incident.

The development has come in after State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) instructed banks to start the compensation process.

The spokesperson added that hackers made some 559 transactions both from inside Pakistan and abroad using multiple fake ATM cards however, all the cards have been blocked.

He further said that dedicated steps have been taken to make payment cards and internet banking more securer for customers.
