Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Captain (r) Safdar reappear in NAB court
The ousted premier attended the proceeding despite being granted exemption by the court.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (r) Safdar on Wednesday reappeared in accountability court hearing three National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against them.
The ousted premier is attending the proceeding despite being granted exemption by the court from personal appearance during the previous hearing.
During the proceeding, NAB prosecutor’s witness Mohammad Rasheed recorded his statement over which Sharif family’s lawyer Khawaja Harris asked, “Had NAB ever contacted your company before?” Rasheed responded that he only received letter on September 5 and he had never appeared before NAB after September 6.
The prosecutor said that the lawyer is confusing his witness after which harsh words exchanged between both parties.
Meanwhile, enraged judge warned them to stop verbal arguments or else he will leave the court room.
The second witness told the court that respective company had not given any service to Nawaz Sharif. Moreover, justice Bashir allowed Sharif family members to leave and continued the hearing.
Maryam Nawaz also submitted plea seeking to change exemption dates from December 5 to January 5, 2018.
Moreover, the accused have been directed to reappear on Novermber 28.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz had sought exemption on the account of the medical condition of Nawaz’s wife Kulsoom, who is undergoing treatment for lymphoma in London. The court allowed Nawaz to be exempted for a week and Maryam for a month.
During previous hearing, Justice Mohammad Bashir declared Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hassan and Hussain absconders over their continuous absence in the case.
Nawaz Sharif is nominated suspect in references regarding Avenfield properties, Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment, while Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (r) Safdar are nominated in reference regarding Avenfield properties alone.
The former PM was indicted by the accountability court during his fifth appearance in the court on November 8 in all three corruption references separately. However, Nawaz denied all the charges pleading not guilty and saying that the proceeding was initiated on political basis.
