Nawaz Sharif and his daughter have been granted exemption from personal appearance in the court.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In another development in the NAB references against Sharif family, former minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz have been granted exemption from appearance by the accountability court in Islamabad today (Wednesday).

Nawaz Sharif has been exempted from appearance for seven days from November 20th to inquire about his wife Kulsoom Nawaz’s health, who is under treatment for lymphoma in London, while Maryam has been granted exemption for a month.

During the hearing, Justice Mohammad Bashir also declared Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hassan and Hussain absconders over their continuous absence in the case.

In the previous hearing, Justice Bashir said all the departments have been contacted to seek details of Hassan and Hussain’s property.

“Summons of the accused have been also pasted on the walls of their house and court,” he added.

Earlier, the court had issued perpetual warrants for Hussain and Hassan Nawaz’s arrest and separated their trial from other members of the family.

Orders have also been given to confiscate their shares in six companies.

NAWAZ’S REMOVAL

In late July the Supreme Court sacked Sharif following an investigation into corruption allegations against his family, making him the 15th premier in Pakistan’s 70-year history to be ousted before completing a full term.

The allegations against the prime minister stemmed from the Panama Papers leak last year, which sparked a media frenzy over the luxurious lifestyles and high-end London property portfolio owned by his family.

The indictment comes ahead of a general election due by the end of 2018, in which Sharif’s ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) will face a renewed offensive by cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.
