ECP said reference from PTI chief is based on dishonesty and then rejected the plea

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected the reference to dismiss Ayesha Gulalai from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with majority votes of three over two.

In an order on Tuesday, ECP ruled in favour of the estranged MNA from PTI by not ending her membership of the Lower House. ECP declared the reference from PTI Chairman Imran Khan to be based on dishonesty.

It was argued that Gulalai had responded to the show cause notice but it was not made part of the reference, highlighting the importance of hearing out the stance of the member.

It is essential to present the written resignation to leave the party, ECP stated, adding that Gulalai neither left the party nor refused to participate in the voting. ECP said she was only absent from the assembly sessions.

ECP told that if ineligibility is to be ruled due to low attendance then Jahangir Tareen and Imran Khan can also face similar punishments. It was mentioned that both these leaders and others were absent during the day Prime Minister was to be decided in the National Assembly.
