Army Chief condemns terrorist attack on American forces in Kandahar

At least 1700 people have been killed in attacks carried out by either the Taliban or ISIS so far

Kabul (Dunya News) –  COAS Qamar Javed Bajwa has strongly condemned the attack on US Military personnel, which took place in Kandahar province of Afghanistan. Two US Special forces personnel lost their lives in the attack.

According to the Pentagon spokesperson, Taliban launched a suicide attacked on a NATO convoy. COAS Bajwa has expressed grief at the Taliban-backed attack in Southern Afghanistan, which resulted in loss of lives. In a statement, he said that Pakistan extended full support and solidarity to the forces fighting against the terrorists.

Kandahar is the third largest city of Afghanistan. The suicide attack in Kandahar occurred a day after a Shia mosque was targeted in Herat, resulting in loss of 32 lives. Kandahar is home to a large International military base. Local media reported, yesterday, that it had been caused by a suicide bomber who rammed a truck laden with explosives into a security forces convoy containing international troops near the airport south of Kandahar city.

Taliban spokesperson Qari Yosuf Ahmadi said the militant group was responsible for the attack. The violence has resulted in unrest amongst public masses as the extremist violence has weakened and divided the Ghani-led government.

A total of 13,000 US and NATO soldiers are currently stationed in the country.
