Hijazi has been arrested in record tampering case

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News)- A session court in Islamabad on Saturday ordered to send Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) former chairman Zafar Hijazi to Adiala jail on 14-day judicial remand.

Hijazi is facing charges of tampering with records of Chaudhry Sugar Mills owned by Sharif family.

As per details available, FIA presented Hijazi in session court and requested to extend physical remand of Hijazi by seven days. Hijazi’s counsel presented arguments against FIA and alleged that Hijazi had already spent seven days under physical remand.

Court rejected FIA’s plea and sent him to Adiala jail on 14-day judicial remand.

It should be recalled that joint investigation team (JIT), constituted by apex court to probe Sharifs’ offshore assets, had found Hijazi guilty of tampering with the records of companies owned by the Sharif family, and has recommended registering a First Information Report (FIR) against him.
