LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) has on Tuesday suspended the appointment of Usman Khattak as Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP), as only those officers are eligible for the post whose three years of employment term are left.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah expressed severe anger when Punjab government presented the appointment notification of Usman Khattak as the permanent IGP of the province, and remarked that the government is making fun of court’s orders and has apparently committed contempt.

Petitioner’s counsel Saad Rasool told the court that only three months have left in Usman Khattak’s term of service. Justice Monsoor Ali Shah commented that the IGP has to be appointed for three years, but Punjab government is not acting upon Police Order 2002.He further said that the government also failed to submit three proposed names for the post of IGP.

The court has further demanded written clarification from federal government, advocate general Punjab and secretary establishment in the next hearing, and ordered to appoint IGP till July 26.

It is worth mentioning here that Usman Khattak was posted as acting IGP a few months ago after the retirement of Mushtaq Sukhera.
