Oil tanker tragedy: Shell agrees on paying fine, compensation money

KARACHI (Dunya News)- Subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell has agreed on paying money in damages and compensation for a tanker explosion that killed more than 200 people last month.

As per details acquired, Shell would pay fine worth Rs10 million to Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and Rs1 million each to the families of over 20 people killed in blaze.

Similarly, Rs5 lakhs each would be given to families of those injured in the hapless incident.

OGRA has held Shell company responsible for the Ahmedpur East tragedy.

At least 217 people were killed and many injured after local villagers had gathered to collect the fuel spilling from the tanker.
