Flood alert: People in AJK, upper Punjab advised to remain vigilant

NDMA alert said heavy rainfall could flood Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during July 11 to July 13

(Web Desk) – National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) told all departments about the floods in rivers and associated nullahs due to heavy rainfall.

It warned all the concerned departments for clearance of sewerage and drainage system as the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej rivers along with associated nullahs could be flooded. These expected floods have been forecasted in the next 48 hours, i.e. from July 11 to July 13. The alert advised people to vacate dangerous buildings, stay away from electric wires and refrain from swimming in rivers or nullahs during rain. NDMA advised strictly against unnecessary ventures into nullahs.

There will be heavy rains in Islamabad, upper Punjab and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir from tomorrow. Also, Met Office has forecasted scattered rainfall in various regions of southern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB). NDMA alert predicted that parts of Punjab, AJK. GB and KP will receive heavy rainfall which could flood Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers in the next 48 hours.

The alert issued involves concerned departments as well as common people residing close to river plains, water courses. Departments like NHA, FWO, WASA and other concerned federal and provincial departments have been advised to stay vigilant of the situation.
