SC directs Nehal Hashmi to submit reply by June 16

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Supreme Court (SC) on Monday has directed Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) Nehal Hashmi to submit reply till June 16 in provocative speech case against judiciary and joint investigation team (JIT) probing Sharif’s assets.

The three-judge bench of the apex court resumed hearing of suo moto notice today (Monday).

Hashmi, during proceedings, informed the country’s top court that he always supported rule of law and constitution upon which Justice Ejaz Afzal pointed out conflict in Hashmi’s statements.

Hashmi requested SC to list his case after Eidul Fitr as he wanted to perform Umrah and apprised court that he did not appear before judges who had taken oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

Hashmi also failed in producing the material summoned by SC.

However, the apex court directed PML-N’s leader to submit reply till June 16 whereas Jutice Ejaz Afzal asked Hashmi not to take case lightly.

While talking to media outside SC, Hashmi unleashed verbal onslaught against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and accused it of desiring confrontation between state institutions for creating chaos.

Nehal further alleged that he was victimized and his speech was distorted.

“I did not commit any offence. I am being penalized and I will not let it happen,” asserted Hashmi.

Nehal Hashmi garnered attention after a video of his emerged in which he was allegedly issuing threatening statements to judiciary and Panamagate JIT.

However, PML-N distanced itself from Nehal’s outburst and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif summoned his resignation.
