Farhatullah Babar revealed the development in meeting of the standing committee of Senate

(Web Desk) – Attaul Haq Qasmi, Chairperson of Pakistan Television appointed self as the Managing Director of the state-run channel, Senate Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage was told on Friday.

Senator Farhatullah Babar broke it to the members of the standing committee during the meeting.

Babar laid it out that it came to his knowledge around ten days ago that Qasmi had called a meeting of the Board of Directors and passed a resolution appointed himself as the Managing Director.

The post of MD fell vacant in February 2016 after former director Mohammad Malik retuired from serice on 28th that month.
Qasmi already is in-service as the Chairperson of PTV after he was appointed in December 2015.

Committee Chairperson Kamil Ali Agha expressed his reservations and asserted that ‘massive reshuffle’ of staffers has taken place since the BoD approved the resolution in the meeting.

Agha further said that the development surfaced as a shock to him.

Reportedly, members of the standing committee took up the issue and criticised Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Maryam Aurangzeb over which Nihal Hashmi of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz urged to postpone the discussion saying that it was not on the agenda.

On the occasion, Farhatullah Babar of PPP called for barring Qasmi to be able to take any action until the issue is resolved.

It should be added here that Chairman of PTV is a policy-related post whereas Managing Director is the executive head.
