Al-Qaeda operating from safe havens in tribal areas: Biden

US Vice President Joseph R. Biden said that Al-Qaeda militants have taken refuge in tribal areas of Pakistan. He said that it was in US interest to help Pakistan in these testing times. In a joint press conference with Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Biden said that Al-Qaeda was operating with the help of some other extremist organizations. He said that extremists were violating the sovereignty of Pakistan and defaming its image. He condemned the murder of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer. He said that US wasnt dictating Pakistan instead it was helping Pakistan to obtain the objectives. He dispelled the expression that US had any motives against Islam. He said that peaceful Pakistan was in the benefit of world. He said that in spite of financial crunch, US gave Pakistan $7.5 billion aid and US also helped the flood-hit people. On this occasion, PM Gilani said that he and Mr Biden discussed ways to strengthen Pak-US strategic relationship, reviewed progress in the war against terror and challenges facing Pakistans economy.
