PK-661 crash: Authorities complete process of DNA sample collection
The blood samples will be sent for DNA testing in the laboratory.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News / AFP) – The blood samples of relatives of PK-661 crash victims have been obtained for DNA testing on Friday.
The process to gather the samples was initiated a day before which concluded early morning at 5:20 am.
Administrator Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Dr Altaf has said that no relative of the three foreigners killed in the crash have yet provided the blood samples.
He pronounced the samples received last night will be sent to laboratories today.
The administrator also affirmed that their desk will remain operational till the arrival of last family member of the victims to provide DNA samples.
He said they will try their best to hand over the bodies to the families as soon as the DNA report is compiled.
Atleast eight bodies have been identified which include five passengers, one air-hostess and two guards.
Their bodies were handed over to their relatives and were buried in their native towns.
The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight crashed into a hillside on Wednesday after one of its two turboprop engines failed while travelling from the city of Chitral to the capital, and burst into flames killing at least 47 people.
Renowned religious scholar and face of former music band, Junaid Jamshed and District Coordination Officer (DCO) of Chitral, Usama Warraich was among the 48 passengers on board the ill-fated flight.
The crash was the fourth deadliest on Pakistani soil.
In May that year a Pakistani military helicopter crashed in a remote northern valley, killing eight people including the Norwegian, Philippine and Indonesian envoys and the wives of the Malaysian and Indonesian envoys.
In August 2015 another army helicopter crashed killing 12 people, all military.
The deadliest air disaster on Pakistani soil was in 2010, when an Airbus 321 operated by private airline Airblue and flying from Karachi crashed into the hills outside Islamabad while about to land, killing all 152 on board.
