Qamar Javed Bajwa was a specialist of 10th Corps, which looks after LOC from Rawalpindi to Siachen

LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Dunya News Chief National Security Correspondent Wajahat Saeed Khan has on Saturday said that the appointment of General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is a clear signal to India as he is considered a specialist of 10th corps, reported Dunya News.

Talking to Salman Hassan on Dunya News’s program TezTar5, Wajahat S. Khan said that Qamar Bajwa also remained chief of staff in the 10th corps as a brigadier and it is the corps that begins from Rawalpindi to Siachen. “This corps looks after the entire Line of Control, the entire actual line of contact and the Rawalpindi area”, he added, “he has also remained the chief Force Command Northern Areas that looks after the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Baltoro areas. Currently he is the IG of Training and Evaluation as well and thus sits right next to COAS”. He said that it was thus a very interesting decision because the threat from India has risen to a new level.

Talking about the new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Lt Gen Zubair Hayat, Wajahat said that he was one of the few people who came to GHQ from SPD. He said that technically his new post was ceremonial in nature with a small directorate in Chaklala but in current environment, dealing with all the three staffs and also the allies, especially China, along with protection of the nuclear assets, his post was evolving and thus he also held a key position now. He said that Zubair Hayat was from artillery, had run SPD and thus wasn’t likely to keep the post in the current ceremonial position.

Wajahat said that there were four people in the race and only two could be promoted while the other two had to leave. Therefore, there is no doubt that with 35 years of experience in the army and with such illustrious career, all four were capable of leading the 5th largest army of the world.

He added that it was a clear signal to India that the man who had been looking them eyeball to eyeball since his youth was now going to look at them with a telescope from General Head-Quarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.
