Jhelum: British national Samia's ex-husband surrenders to police
She had married Syed Mukhtar Kazam shortly after she left her first husband
JHELUM (Dunya News) – Police are hunting for Bradford resident, slain beauty therapist, 28-year-old Samia’s ex-husband named Shakeel after a case was lodged by her second husband following her murder, reported Thursday.
British woman with Pakistan origin, Samia had returned to home in Jhelum from Dubai after she was informed about her father’s bad health.
She was allegedly murdered and her husband, Syed Mukhtar Kazam who was residing out of the country was told that she suffered a cardiac arrest.
Kazam, a Pakistani national has alleged that she was killed for ‘honour’ for marrying someone who was always seen as an ‘outsider’ by her conservative family.
She was married to her cousin back from the village before she tied the knot with him, Kazam said adding that he was sure the family murdered his wife as none was happy with her for marrying him.
Kazam returned to Pakistan after learning about the news and lodged a case against her late wife’s family.
Dunya News has obtained copies of her passport and Iqama. Murdered woman’s passport bears name, Samia Shahid but her legal guardian’s name is Syed Mukhtar Kazam.
Her Iqama states ‘housewife’ in occupation section and it was to expire in May 2017.
Samia was murdered on July 20 in her home town Pandori near Mangla Dam. The couple were residing in Dubai for a year.
On the other hand, Interior Ministry took notice of the case and ordered police to ramp up investigations.
Meanwhile, British MP Naz Shah has written a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif urging him to order exhumation of her body for investigations.
However, police say that no visible signs of visible injuries were seen on her body before she was buried in her graveyard in native village.
