Chief Minister has ordered immediate release of Rs 200 million to clear drainage channels

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Several areas of Karachi have lost power supply after monsoon shower hit the metropolitan while different roads were waterlogged, reported Wednesday.

Stadium Road, MA Jinnah Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal among other roads are inundated and locals are facing issues.

K-Electric spokesperson said that there was no major breakdown in Sindh’s capital and that power supply would be restored once the rain lightens.

On the other hand, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah chaired a meeting and ordered immediate release of Rs 200 million to clear drainage channels in the city during monsoon.

Earlier last night, at least 70 percent of the city areas lost power supply after its first monsoon downpour.

A total of 220 power feeders tripped last night and by the afternoon today it was reported that at least 30 percent of the city still did not have power supply more than 15 hours after the downpour.

Reportedly, staff of a local court abandoned the work while the courtroom was emptied owing to lack of electricity.

Roads in different localities were waterlogged and administration’s tall claims of better management this time around were refuted.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more showers in the coming days.

Different streets and roads in KDA Chowrangi, Hyderi, Allah Wali Chowrangi, Orangi Town, FTC, Korangi, Green Town, Golden Town, Kala Pul, Saddar, Rashid Minhas Road, NIPA Chowrangi and Quaidabad were inundated after last night s downpour.

Residents of Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Malir, Abul Hassan Isfahani Road and North Nazimabad also faced different issues due to administration’s slackness.

According to the weather forecast department, the current spell would continue for two more days and the city will get more even heavy showers in the first week of July and during Eid holidays.
