Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan likely on July 6: Met office
Eid celebrations begin when a new crescent moon appears in the evening sky.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan is likely to fall on July 6, the Director General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department said on Saturday.
Speaking to Dunya News, DG Met Dr Ghulam Rasool said that the moon is expected to appear on 29th of Ramazan. The moon will be first sighted at Balochistan’s coastal areas including Pasni and Jiwani.
The beginning and end of Islamic months are determined by the sighting of the new moon.
Eid-ul-Fitr, the religious festival of Muslims, is celebrated on the first of Shawwal according to the Muslim Hijri calendar, marking the end of the holy fasting month of Ramazan.
During the last few days of Ramazan, it is customary to prepare for Eid al-Fitr. Families go shopping for new clothes as everyone is expected to wear something new or look very smart during this holy time.
The event is one of the centerpieces of the Muslim calendar. It features large public group prayers and extended family gatherings.
Parents often buy gifts and new clothes for their children. Public squares, parks and zoos across the Muslim world become packed with visitors and picnickers.
If Eid in the country is celebrated on July 6th then Pakistan and Saudi Arabia shall coincidentally observe it on the same day.
