Scotland Yard seeks extradition of Imran Farooq murder suspects: sources

Three suspects were arrested in Pakistan in connection with murder of Imran Farooq in London.

LONDON (Dunya News) – In another development in Imran Farooq murder case, the Scotland Yard has appealed for extradition of detained suspects Khalid Shamim, Moazzam Ali and Mohsin Ali from Pakistan to Britain, sources told.

According to sources, the Interior Ministry has insisted to hold suspects’ trial in Pakistan and has sought more evidence from the Scotland Yard for affective trial.

On the other hand, Scotland Yard officials have asserted that trial of a murder case cannot be held in two countries.

The three-member Scotland Yard team has left for UK from Islamabad today after holding meeting with the suspects at Adyala Jail. They also reviewed their confessional statements and looked into Sarfraz Merchant‘s allegations regarding Indian spy agency RAW‘s funding to the MQM. 

Exiled leader of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Dr Farooq (50) was on his way home from work when he was attacked outside his home in Green Lane, Edgware, London on Thursday 16 September 2010.

He died as a result of multiple stab wounds and blunt trauma to the head. A five and a half inch-bladed kitchen knife and a house brick used in the attack were recovered at the scene.

Earlier on Friday, detectives investigating the murder of Dr Imran Farooq in London made another appeal to people to provide information to piece together the suspects‘ movements in the days immediately prior to the murder and their travel out of the UK on 16 September 2010.

According to London Metropolitan Police, the two men wanted in connection with the murder are Moshin Ali Syed, a Pakistani national who was in the UK between February 2010 and 16 September 2010 and Muhammad Kashif Khan Kamran, a Pakistani national who was in the UK between early September 2010 and 16 September 2010.

The British investigation team revealed that the two men resided in the Stanmore area prior to the murder and left the UK on the evening of the murder. The men are known to have registered to study at a college in East London having entered the UK on student visas.
