According to the notification, students of both genders are not allowed to sit or walk together.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – University of Swat Friday issued a notification prohibiting girls and boys from walking or sitting together in the campus or outside the campus.

According to a notification issued by Chief Proctor of the institue Hazrat Bilal, the penalty for violation of these rules will range from a fine of Rs. 50 to Rs. 5000. Furthermore, the University may even call the parents of the concerned students for an emergency meeting.

The ban is not the first of its kind, with similar restrictions imposed previously in various educational institutes of the country, even some very prestigious ones.

With the country’s already shaky educational system, especially in the rural areas, the impact of such a move is not seen by many as productive.

It is pertinent to mention here that education in Swat has survived even through some of its toughest times. Pakistan’s Nobel laureate and female education activist Malala Yousafzai also hails from Swat and has been a vocal supporter of education in the region.
