Madrassa roof collapse kills six students in Dera Ghazi Khan
The madrassa is situated on Multan road near Geedar Wala bypass.
DG KHAN (Web Desk) - At least six children died and 14 sustained injuries when roof of a madrassa collapsed in Dera Ghazi Khan today (Tuesday).
The children were studying Holy Quran in the madrassa situated on Multan road near Geedar Wala bypass.
Rescue teams have retrieved six bodies and shifted the injured students to local hospitals.
Reportedly, six children are still trapped under the rubble.
The incident occurs at a time when rescuers are battling to reach thousands of people stranded by floods and landslides in Pakistan’s northwest and parts of Kashmir, as the death toll rose to 61.
At least 180 houses had been destroyed in the affected areas.
Poorly-built homes across the country, particularly in rural areas, are prone to collapse during the annual spring rains, which are often heavy.
Severe weather hits Pakistan annually, and in recent years hundreds have been killed and huge tracts of prime farmland destroyed, which has delt a heavy blow to the largely agrarian economy.
During the rainy season last summer, torrential downpours and flooding killed 81 people and affected almost 300,000 across the country and in Kashmir.
