Complainant had included use of weapons in the FIR, states defendant's counsel

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court (SC) has acquitted a man who was imprisoned for a year for stealing coriander worth Rs 1,000, Dunya News reported Thursday.

The thief forwarded a bail plea in the court which was accepted by a two-member bench led by Justice Gulzar Ahmed.

Counsel for the defendant, Siddique Baloch said that the complainant had included use of pistol and a rifle in the first information report (FIR) because of which trial court and the high court had rejected the bail plea.

Astonished Justice Qazi Faiz Esa asked Baloch if what he meant was that his client served a year in prison for stealing coriander worth Rs 1,000. To which the counsel for the defendant replied with a positive answer.

The Supreme Court bench acquitted the criminal.
