KARACHI (Web Desk) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has summoned Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah to Islamabad to discuss Rangers issue, Dunya News reported Monday.

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has said that he would meet the Prime Minister in the federal capital after discussion on Rangers issue with party leadership.

Nawaz Sharif arrived in Karachi today to review work on various developmental projects of Port Qasim Authority and Port Qasim Power Project. Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah received the prime minister on his arrival.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Khurram Dastagir and Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on the daylong visit.

During the visit, the Prime Minister inspected the site of Port Qasim Power Project. He is scheduled to address members of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The visit comes a day after political atmosphere heated up following Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari‘s accusations on the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for allegedly victimising the opposition party in the name of National Action Plan (NAP).

Responding to Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari‘s criticism, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid on Sunday clarified that the parliament is already supervising the National Action Plan (NAP).

Bilawal‘s strong remarks came few days after the federal government rejected Sindh government‘s summary regarding conditional extension in paramilitary Rangers‘ policing powers to conduct targeted operation against criminal elements in Karachi.

The federal government issued a notification, restoring Rangers‘ previous powers for another sixty days.

Since launch of the targeted action in the city, the law enforcement agencies have achieved major success and overall law and order situation has improved, however, the PPP‘s leadership was concerned on the scope of operation after its co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari‘s close aide, Dr Asim Hussain was arrested on corruption and terror charges.
