Two death row convicts hanged in Sahiwal

At least two death row prisoners were executed in Central Jail Sahiwal on Saturday.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Two death row convicts were sent to the gallows in the Central Jail Sahiwal on early Saturday morning while execution of another death row prisoner in Vehari was postponed, Dunya News reported.

According to details, two death row convicts were hanged in the Central Jail Sahiwal. Prisoner Zahoor Ahmad was executed for killing a man named Muhammad Ameen in 2002 over and old enmity while death row prisoner makhdum was hanged for murdering a man named Irfan during a robbery attempt.

On the other hand, execution of death row convicts Safdar was postponed in Vehari when mother of the victim pardoned him after the noose was tightened around his neck.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted the moratorium on the death penalty on December 17, 2014, a day after Taliban gunmen attacked a school in Peshawar and killed 134 students and 19 adults. The killings put pressure the government to do more to tackle the insurgency. Since then more than 300 death row prisoners, including terrorists and murderers have been hanged in various jails of the country.
