Lahore: 8 death row convicts hanged in various cities

Eight more death row prisoners were hanged in various jails of Punjab on Tuesday morning.

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Eight death row prisoners were hanged on early Tuesday morning in the jails of Attock, Bahawalpur, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Gujrat while execution of six convicts was postponed. The dead bodies of the prisoners were handed over to their families.

According to details, death row convict Zahid was executed in District Jail Attock. Zahid was guilty of killing a man in 2005 during a robbery attempt.

Two death row prisoners were hanged in Central Jail Multan. Prisoner Manzoor Hussain had killed a man some 14 years ago while death row prisoner Malik Tahir had killed a man over an old enmity.

Two more death row convicts were executed in the New Central Jail Bahawalpur. Prisoner Akhtar Ali was hanged for killing a woman in 2002 during a robbery attempt while Aziz-ur-Rehman was hanged for murdering three people in 2002.

A murderer named Muhammad Iqbal was sent to the gallows in the Central Jail Dera Ghazi Khan. Iqbal had killed a man named Manzoor Hussain in 2001.

Two more killers were executed in District Jail Gujrat. Death row prisoners Azam and Iftekhar were hanged for murdering a man in 2004.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lifted a six-year moratorium on death penalty on December 17, 2014 for those convicted for terrorism a day after the deadly attack on Army Public School in Peshawar that left 150 persons including mostly children dead. There are more than 8,000 prisoners on death row in the country.
