Opposition stages walkout from Senate for neglecting west route in CPEC
The Senators demanded the govt to address their reservations over CPEC as early as possible.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Opposition parties on Friday staged a walkout from the Senate in a protest for not addressing their reservations over China-Pakistan economic Corridor (CPEC).
Chairman Raza Rabbani chaired a Senate session during which the opposition parties including Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party lashed out at the federation regarding implementation of CPEC. The opposition parties stated that it’s unjust that the incumbent government is only focusing on one province.
The Senators argued that unequal benefit distribution among the provinces may cause negativity in the hearts of the people.
Meanwhile, Senator Usman Kakkar stated that west route was completely neglected in the CPEC as not a single energy project has been installed on that route. He said that the government’s irresponsible attitude has shown that opposition was right about economic corridor.
Moreover, enraged opposition parties left the session.
Earlier, opposition Leader in the National Assembly (NA) Khursheed Shah wrote a letter to the Prime Minister (PM) to address regarding stake holders’ reservations over China Pakistan economic Corridor (CPEC).

Shah said that if the corridor would benefit one province more than others, it would add problems to the historic agreement between the neighbors.
The NA Opposition Leader has termed the CPEC a ‘lifetime opportunity’ for Pakistan. He has warned Nawaz Sharif of negative outcomes of unequal benefit distribution among the provinces.
The letter also states that Sindh is getting neglected ‘on purpose’. He has demanded the premier of making efforts for benefit of the entire country with the massive investment that China is making.
