PM Nawaz leaves for Washington
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will leave for US today on a four-day official visit.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has left for the United States on a four-day official visit today (Monday). The invitation of this visit was given by the US President Barack Obama.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will hold talks with US President Barack Obama on October 22. The premier will also meet other top US officials including Secretary of State John Kerry during the visit.
Federal ministers including Nisar Ali Khan, Khawaja Asif and Prime Minister’s special advisers Tariq Fatemi and Sartaj Aziz are part of the delegation.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will apprise US President about his vision for regional peace and building stable and peaceful ties with all neighbouring countries, including India and Afghanistan.
PM Nawaz will also discuss regional situation, matters relating to defence, counter-terrorism, economic, trade and climatic change with Barack Obama during his visit.
Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said that the purpose of PM’s visit is to strengthen ties between the two countries.
He said PM Nawaz is visiting the US on American president’s invitation, adding that no deal between the two countries is being discussed currently. The spokesman said that PM’s visit will be the source of strengthening of ties between the two countries.
In a statement prior to embarking on the US visit, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pak-US bilateral relations are continuously advancing on an upward trajectory and we want to expand the scope of strategic dialogue framework between the two countries.
Nawaz Sharif further said that Pakistan is a responsible sovereign nuclear state and our strategic assets are secured under a foolproof arrangement.
Nawaz Sharif will also meet Chairman of House Foreign Affairs Committee and members of Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He will also have business interaction with Pakistan-US Business Council and US Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
