CJ LHC begins hearing election rigging cases
Chief Justice LHC stated that active service judges cannot hear rigging cases
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) refused to send the election rigging cases to High Court on Saturday. He has stated that such cases can only be heard by retired judges and not by serving judges, reported Dunya News.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refused to extend the services of election tribunal judges after they failed to deal with the case in the stipulated time frame. The service duration of the judges is to end on August 31.
Chief ECP has written a letter to LHC and recommended that the cases be forwarded to High Court. Chief Justice LHC has rejected ECP’s letter, stating that only retired judges can hear rigging cases, as per law.
Chief Justice LHC stated that active service judges cannot hear rigging cases.
