Summary Report says resignations haven't been approved yet, negotiations should start, JUI-F to start talks

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Legal experts have on Saturday presented their report on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) resignations to Jamiat Ulema Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Report says that the resignations have not yet been accepted and negotiations should start. JUI-F will start the talks with MQM from Sunday, reported Dunya News.

Meeting of the legal experts on MQM’s resignations was chaired by former President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Kamran Murtaza in Islamabad. The legal and constitutional status of the resignations was examined in this meeting. Report says that MQM’s resignations have not been accepted in accordance with the law while Islamabad High Court’s decision on Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) resignations still stands.

The meeting concluded that the Speaker of the National Assembly has to decide whether the resignations were tendered voluntarily or under pressure. It is the Speaker who has to decide whether the resignations are correct or not. The meeting suggested talks with MQM.

Moreover, government’s legal advisor Ushtar Ausaf Ali met Maulana Fazl and JUI-F’s legal team. The legal team told that Speaker will have to decide whether MQM members resigned in order to vacate the seats or to get their protest recorded. They said that there is legal room for withdrawal of MQM’s resignations and this matter is more political than legal.

In the light of the legal experts’ views, JUI-F head will start talks with MQM tomorrow.
