General Electric Company keen to invest in wind energy projects

A delegation of General Electric Company of USA, headed by Ferdinando Falco Beccalli, President and Chief Executive Officer of General Electric International,called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Friday. The delegation also included Kursat Ozkan, Corporate Regional Executive, Karan Bhattia, Vice President General Electric Corporate and Lorenzo Simonelli, Vice President General Electric Rail.Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Minister for Finance, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Minister for Railways, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Minister for Water & Power, M. Salman Faruqui, Secretary General to the President, Saleem H. Mandviwala, Chairman Board of Investment,Samiul Haq Khilji, Secretary Railway, spokesperson to the President former senator Farhat Ullah Babar and other senior officials also attended the meeting. The meeting was part of series of meetings the General Electric Company has been holding in Pakistan to explore different avenues of investment in power generation, wind energy and building of fast track railway lines in Pakistan. The President while referring to the Pak-US strategic relations said that US is our single largest investment and trade partner and added that initiatives of General Electric Company to invest in Pakistan will further enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The President assured full support of the government towards realization of the companys initiatives for contributing to the economic and social development of Pakistan. He said that the business friendly and liberal investment policy devised by the government to attract foreign investment in key sectors like energy and power generation, transportation, infrastructure, manufacturing and agriculture have resulted in attracting significant foreign direct investment in Pakistan. The CEO of General Electric said that his company was keen to invest in wind energy projects and also in building fast track railway lines in Pakistan.The President appreciated General Electrics interest to invest in Pakistan and also emphasized the need for latest technology and localizing it in Pakistan as the strategy for improving railway in the country.The President said that Pakistan offers promising opportunities and prospects for massive investment in new sources of energy in Pakistan particularly in the development of wind energy.
