The robot can also be used to diffuse improvised explosive devices (IEDs) upto 1000 kg.

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Stringent security arrangements have been made to avert any possible attempt of sabotage at the central procession and other Youm-e-Ali related gatherings in the city on Thursday, Dunya News reported.

According to details, 11,000 police officials, 1000 Rangers and a modern anti-IED robot has been deployed on MA Jinnah road for security purpose.

The automatic robot will be used for bomb-sweeping at the central procession from Numaish Chowrangi on MA Jinnah Road to Kharadar via Saddar.

The robot bought from Britian is worth million rupees and can also be used to diffuse improvised explosive devices (IEDs) upto 1000 kg. Four cameras and one rifle gun is installed in the robot for monitoring.

The robot identifies explosive material through an x-ray machine whereas rifle gun is used for unlocking. Due to its short height, the robot can easily search under footpath and cars.

Moreover, not only the identification of explosive material has been made easier by the robot rather, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) does not need to take any risks during the bomb defusing process.

These special robots are controlled through specialized vans.
