The court outlawed sections 14 and 61 of Cantonment Election Ordinance after hearing evidence

LAHORE (Dunya News) -- Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday has ordered Cantonment Board elections to be held on party, reported Dunya News.

President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab Ijaz Chaudary along with 5 other persons had petitioned against the decision of holding local body election on non-party basis in LHC.

The plaintiff, presenting the case in front of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, took the stance that holding of elections under non-party basis is against articles 17 and 25 of the constitution.

It should be noted here that LHC had outlawed holding of elections on non-party basis all over Punjab hence the plaintiff’s position of outlawing non-party basis elections in Cantonments Board as well.

Deputy Attorney General told the court that Cantonment Board elections are in the jurisdiction of Federal authority and these elections are held under Cantonment Election Ordinance 2002.

The court after hearing evidence outlawed sections 14 and 61 of Cantonment Election Ordinance and ordered holding elections in the province on party basis.
