He said he won't let anyone touch blasphemy laws so long as he is in Senate

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Deputy Chairman Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haideri on Sunday said that he won’t let such legislation pass which discriminates against seminaries, Dunya News reported.

Addressing media after laying foundation of a madrassa in Lahore, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Haideri said that he will work together even with those who did not vote for him for the post of Deputy Chairmanship in the upper house.

He said his party has reservations over the 21st Amendment because “it appears that seminaries are being targeted in the guise of the amendment.”

He said he will fight attempts to legislate against seminaries whether he retains his deputy chairmanship or not. However, he said, his party will support the government in its fight against terrorism.

Deputy Chairman said that amendment of any kind in the blasphemy laws will not be permitted so long as he is in the Senate.

He said Karachi operation should conclude on agreement of all parties just like it was started.
