AG submits revised schedule of local govt elections in SC
Local government elections in Punjab and Sindh will be held in three phases.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Attorney General Salman Aslam Butt has presented revised schedule of local government elections in the Supreme Court today (Thursday), Dunya News reported.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Jawad S Khawaja heard the petitions pertaining to holding of local government elections in provinces and cantonment areas.
According to the new schedule, LG polls in Punjab and Sindh will be held in three phases. The first phase will be held on September 20, 2015 second phase on November 4, and third phase on December 9, 2015.
Elections in Khyber Pakhutnkhwa will be held on June 7 and on April 25 this year in cantonment areas.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked that the court will not tolerate any further delay in the elections and the new schedule will be reviewed first to ascertain its efficacy.
We will ensure implementation of the constitution, he added.
The honourable judge further stated that it responsibility of the election commission to update electoral lists but the commission has not done anything practically in this regard.
