SC rejects ECP's schedule of local body elections in Punjab, Sindh

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Wednesday has rejected the schedule of local body elections in Sindh and Punjab on January 16 2016. The SC ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit schedule of holding of elections in August and finalise delimitations until July.

Earlier, the ECP had submitted a schedule to hold local body elections in Sindh and Punjab. Justice Sarmad ordered the delimitation of Sindh and Punjab to be done simultaneously. According to the schedule presented by the ECP, the elections of the Cantonment Boards were to be held on May 16 while in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on June 7.

The SC had ordered the ECP to submit schedule by around 7:45pm. Moreover, the ECP was also asked to submit schedule of holding of local body elections in Islamabad and Cantonment.
