The committee is supposed to present a national plan of action to the government within seven days

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The first meeting of the National Action Plan Committee headed by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has been started in the Parliament House.

Almost all the political parties’ nominated members are present at the meeting.

The committee is supposed to present a national plan of action to the government within seven days.

The government, after approving the plan, would share it with the nation before its implementation.

Senators Kulsoom Parveen and Abdul Rahim Khan Mandokhel and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) spokeperson Shireen Mazari are also present at the meeting.

Earlier, PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi was nominated to represent the party in the committee but later PTI chairman Imran Khan announced replacing Qureshi with Mazari.

MQM has proposed names of Dr. Farooq Sattar and Senator Babar Ghauri while Jamaat-e-Islami has nominated Farid Piracha and Sahibzada Tariq Ullah for the Committee.

Awami National Party has nominated Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Qaumi Watan Party Anisa Tahir Kheli and PML-Q Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed.

The committee was formed after Tehreek-e-Taliban militants attacked an army-run school in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing 149 people, mostly children.

The massacre shocked the world and prompted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to lift a moratorium on the death penalty for the convicted terrorists.
