ECP not to rely on NADRA for biometric system, electronic voting

Interim CECP says storage houses for record keeping will be made at provincial. Federal offices

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided not to depend on NADRA for using biometric system and electronic voting during the next elections. Interim Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan (CECP) Justice Anwar Zaheer has said that storage houses will be made at central and provincial offices of ECP for keeping record of elections.

Meeting of ECP was held today (Tuesday) under the headship of Interim CECP in Islamabad. It was decided in the meeting that ECP will not rely on NADRA for e-voting and biometric system. Machines made by Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) and other institutions were also tested during the meeting.

Secretary Election Commission told the meeting that legal document for the use of e-voting machines has been handed over to Electoral Reforms Committee. On the other hand, ECP has decided to use transparent ballot boxes instead of steel ones. The three hundred thousand steel boxes available with the commission will be auctioned.
