LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Education Department on Friday has ordered all the educational institutions to remain closed on Saturday due to the two days of torrential monsoon rains in Pakistan, Dunya News reported. The announcement from Education Department has come after the continued rain forecasts and flood threats in Pakistan.

Situation created by the continuous rains from the past several days in Lahore has instigated the Education Department to issue notification that all the private and public education institutions will remain close on Saturday. According to the department, this step has been taken to avoid any mishap and losses to the students, as critical conditions have been created due to the unprecedented rain in city.

According to AFP, Pakistan s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) warned there was a high risk of flooding in three towns along the Chenab river in Punjab and asked people to leave low-lying and vulnerable areas.
Troops have been mobilised for flood relief duties in eastern Punjab and "will remain on standby in Lahore", the provincial capital.
Several roads in the city, including Davis Road, Jail Road, Abbot Road, McLeod Road, Nisbat Road, were submerged under three to four feet of rainwater. Dozens of motorcycles and cars were trapped on flooded roads and people faced hardship in reaching their homes.
"At least 35 people have died and 108 been injured in Punjab, 18 of them died and 53 injured in Lahore," Rizwan Naseer, the director general of rescue services in Punjab, said.
